WHAT ARE FLOWER ESSENCES

Flower essences are one of the gentlest and most profound forms of plant medicine available to us. They are liquid preparations made from the flowering parts of plants (not to be confused with essential oils or aromatherapy). They are scentless, taken as drops, and work not on the physical body directly but on the emotional and energetic patterns that so often sit underneath our physical and mental states.

They are vibrational medicine: subtle, safe, and deeply effective.

About Flower Essences

HOW THEY WORK

Flower essences do not suppress what is difficult. They work by creating the conditions in which your own inner resources can surface, encouraging the positive quality that lives on the other side of every challenging state. Rather than fighting what is hard, they tend it. They make space for what wants to move, to move.

They are safe for all ages, non-toxic, and compatible with any other form of treatment or medicine. A formula is taken as drops (typically four times a day) and works most effectively when taken consistently over time. One month is the minimum for present-moment states. For deeper or more chronic patterns, three months allows real transformation to occur.

THE BACH REMEDIES: WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The foundation of flower essence therapy was laid in the 1930s by Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician and bacteriologist who became convinced that medicine was missing something essential: the person behind the illness. During his years working in hospitals, he observed that patients who were emotionally unwell returned again and again with recurring physical complaints. He began to look for a healing system that could treat the whole person, not just the symptom, and found his answer in the wildflowers of the English countryside.

Dr. Bach developed a system of 38 essences, each addressing a specific emotional state that all human beings move through at some point in their lives. His system is considered complete in that sense, covering the full spectrum of our inner weather, from fear and uncertainty to grief, rigidity, and loss of hope. His remedies have had a devoted following for nearly a century because they work gently, safely, and without interfering with any other treatment or medicine.

At The Subtle Garden, the Bach remedies are at the heart of the practice. They are the root system from which everything else grows.

THE GARDENS WE WORK WITH

The world of flower essences did not stop with Dr. Bach. Over the decades, practitioners and researchers around the world have developed their own systems, drawing on the plants native to their own lands and traditions.

At The Subtle Garden, we work with several of these systems alongside the Bach remedies, because different flowers speak to different layers of our being, and because the inner landscape is vast.

California FES Rooted in Bach's teachings, expanded into the psychology of the soul and the subtler dimensions of personality development.

Australian Bush Grounded in the ancient wisdom of the Australian continent. Practical, clear, and deeply connected to the challenges of modern life.

Orchids of America Working on the most elevated dimensions of the human being, soul and spirit, meeting us where we are most ready to grow.

Saskia's A European system of remarkable depth, working with boundaries, sensitivity, and the subtle layers of our relationship with ourselves and others.

This is honest medicine. And it meets you exactly where you are.
